Dredging of Burrard Inlet

PCT is planning on increasing the safety of travelling vessels through Burrard Inlet by increasing the depth of the channel from -10.5 metres to -14 metres. The dredging will allow loaded vessels to safely sail at any time, independent of tides. A similar dredge was last conducted by PCT in 1995.

PCT plans to move and relocate approximately 530,000 m3 of sediment from the seabed of the inlet in 2014. The sediment will be placed in deep water near PCT.

The dredging will increase vessel safety and business efficiency, and include local fish habitat restoration with minimal to no residual environmental impact on surrounding areas.
